Posture Exercises For A Healthy Back

One of the keys to having a healthier back is having strong postural muscles.  Regular use of these muscles should keep them in shape.  However, overtime they can become weak, which can lead to soreness or back pain.  A regular workout of posture exercises can help to keep them strong and it goes a long way to preventing back pain.

By performing a set of exercises to improve posture, you can stave off some of the negative effects of aging.  You will find that you don’t have to spend hours in the gym in order to have a strong and healthy back.

Most people think that back pain is related to bending, lifting, or straining their backs.  However poor posture is one of the top causes of nagging back pain.  Slumping over your computer at work, having slouched shoulders while you walk and stand all day can be a few of the things that are effected by bad posture.  Employing a set of postural exercises combined with practicing proper posture techniques can go a long way to reducing pain in the lower back.

The body functions best when in proper alignment.  This is done by a combination of the muscular system and the skeletal system.  When one part of the two becomes weak, you are no longer getting the support that you need.  The result is more strain on the back and shoulders.  You end the day tired and sore.  Posture exercises can help by strengthening the muscles that keep the back and shoulders straight.

One nice thing about performing exercises for good posture is that they can be quick and easy to perform.  There is no need to pack and exercise bag and head to the gym, unless you want to.  Most of these exercises can be performed in the comfort of your home in about twenty minutes a day.

You can start out slow with little or no weights, and progressively add more resistance as you grow stronger.  If performed several times a week, up to five days a week you should see results quickly.  If you are not currently doing any sort of exercise it is always best to consult with your doctor before starting any new workout program.

You will want to concentrate on exercises that work your upper, mid, and lower back, as well as the shoulders.  Most of the ones you will concentrate on will be flys and rows. There are plenty of exercise routines available online that can show you the exact moves, and at some point in the future I’ll add a tutorial on posture correction exercises complete with pictures and video.  Till then, take a look at some of the exercises online.

As you can see it is important to have a strong and healthy back to prevent or reduce pain and keep things in line.  Incorporating some posture exercises into your daily routine is the perfect way to do this.
